Denison Community Service Association, student led community service organization, will host several events for Make a Difference Day that will address community needs regarding housing and food insecurity and work to meet basic needs. We will be having direct service events with St. Vincent Haven where we will prepare a meal for 50 male residents, and serve the meal for the residents on Sat. Oct. 26th and 27th. Students will also directly serve at the Newark Homeless Outreach on the 26th. We will have a direct service opportunity with Together We Grow Gardens to support their work with sustainability and access to healthy food. These events will be private to Denison students.
We will host a community event for Denison, students, faculty, staff, and community members where we will have community partners speak and educate attendees about housing insecurity and food insecurity. We will also have attendees participate in a passive service project and ask for donations for blanket making and items for hygiene kit making. Donations of no sew tie blankets, Chapstick, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, hand warmers, socks, hats, gloves, tampons, pads, etc...This event will be open to the community and people can bring donations to Slayter Student Union, Office 311 in the Alford Community Leadership and Involvement Center up until Oct. 26th. All blankets and hygiene kits will benefit members of the community at St. Vincent Haven, Newark Homeless Outreach, and the Salvation Army.
We will be partnering with Sending Hope Ohio for the community event at Denison University, and for events during the week with Newark City Schools. This would be providing education surrounding service to community, and working to complete passive service projects.
