Our Childcare Development Center (CDC) relies on volunteers to help spruce up our outdoor space for the warmer months. This includes building raised beds, planting flowers and creating a garden area each year to provide an ongoing safe and caring place for the children we serve. At this time, we serve nearly 300 children at the CDC who play all summer long on the playground and explore the outdoor areas of our building. Without the proper care, it is hard to do this. We also encourage learning by planting a variety of flowers and vegetables in which we use for programming by teaching the toddler and preschool students about the different plants. Our older children and summer campers are able to help tend to the vegetables and flowers and learn how to properly take care of the variety of plants. The vegetables are also given out to families who the CDC serves who may be in need of healthier options at home that may not otherwise be able to afford it. Our volunteer request would be that they would come in and help build raised beds and then plant a variety of flowers and vegetables in the new raised beds. Not only does our CDC as a whole benefit from this project, the children, parents and incoming families will benefit as it will make a difference for all.
