The Chatfield Edge is a non profit dedicated to bringing education to first generation and nontraditional college students. Mentoring is one of the pillars of our organization. The world of higher education can be challenging and may feel out of reach for many of our scholars. We walk with them through the entire journey - from enrollment through graduation. Mentors are a major aspect of that journey; they bring positive support and real world knowledge to our students as they navigate education and life. We are unique in that we work with students of all ages from 17 - 70. Adults need mentors too! Mentors meet with students for 1 hour sessions throughout their semesters or terms. You can make a difference!
Ohio Mentoring
Mentorship occurs when an adult provides support to a youth in an area of need. Mentorship provides powerful benefits to the mentee including improved high school graduation rates, reduced likelihood of dropping out of school, improved school attendance, higher college enrollment rates, improved behavior in and out of school, improved interpersonal relationships, and reduced likelihood of using drugs and alcohol. There are also significant benefits to the mentor including increased self-esteem, enhanced social networks, and improved patience and supervisory skills.
Mentoring provides powerful benefits to young people across Ohio, and there is a critical need for more volunteers to become mentors to support youth.
