In celebration of ServeOhio Day, we are seeking to complete installation the current pocket park in the side lot adjacent to Five Pointe Community Center, managed by Greater Collinwood Development Corporation. Our goal is to transition the current seating area to learning hub and enhanced community space. We plan to create intergenerational vegetable garden, where seniors teach youth how to grow fresh produce.
Furthermore, we intend to increase the community center outreach efforts by installing a community message board and give box. The community message board will allow community members to stay updated on programs or events taking place in the community. The give box has the structural design of a “little free library” but will include many more items such as books, PPE (face masks and hand sanitizer) and nonperishable food items.
The completion of the second phase will help beautify our neighborhood and enhance the community center as focal point of engagement. GCDC service area is comprised of 35,000 residents, most of which actively engage in our neighborhood parks throughout the spring and summer months. Parks provide an opportunity for residents to enjoy vital green space, engage in meaningful physical activities, and value community socialization.
