ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND: Founded in 1992, After-School All Stars (ASAS) provides free comprehensive after-school programs and support services year-round for students and their families. ASAS serves approximately 80,000 PreK-12th grade students and their families annually in high-poverty communities through 19 active affiliate chapters with established partnerships at 468 elementary, middle, and high schools in 60 cities across the continental United States and Hawaii. Our vision is for our All-Stars to be safe and healthy, to graduate from high school and go on to college, to find a career they love, and to give back to their communities.

A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY: After-School All-Stars (ASAS) has openings for Mentor positions for 3 program sites in Cleveland, OH. Mentors will run daily mentoring programs for ASAS youth at assigned program sites across the Cleveland Chapter. This is the ideal position for a dynamic professional who wants to make an impact in the lives of young people. The successful candidates will be able to serve as excellent role models and forge connections to inspire youth. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Programming 

  • Implement in-person programming Monday – Thursday between the hours of 3pm and 6 pm during the school year and Monday – Thursday 12pm  4pm during the summer months. Facilitate small group (10:1) and individual (1:1) mentoring for student participants in grades 1st – 8th. Note: student ages will vary by site.

  • Facilitate rising star lesson plans that focus on:

  • Social and Emotional Learning

  • Personal Growth and Wellbeing

  • Career exploration and Entrepreneurship

  • Financial Literacy

  • Community Engagement and Service Learning

  • Interact with and be a positive role model for ASAS Students

Professional Development

  • Training and mentorship skills provided by ASAS.

  • Periodic team meetings.

  • Ongoing professional development opportunities provided by ASAS.

  • Support from Mentor Coordinator.

Reporting 

  • Collaborate with Mentor Coordinator and local chapter program staff to report program metrics.

  • Serve as chapter contact for OJJDP Project Manager at the national level.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with youth is preferred.

  • Ability to read, write and use basic computer skills.

  • Must have reliable transportation.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively on a team.

  • Must clear a background check and complete safe schools training.

COMMITMENT:

  • Volunteering at least once a week for a minimum of 3 months (1 session).
