Reports to: Executive Director / Education & Outreach Coordinator
Time Commitment: Flexible shifts; preferred 4-6 hours per week during public hours
Museum docents are the welcoming face of the Maritime Museum! As a docent, you'll greet visitors, interpret exhibits, answer questions, and help create a fun and engaging museum experience. This role is perfect for history lovers, storytellers, and friendly faces who enjoy sharing knowledge with guests of all ages.
Key Responsibilities:
- Welcome and orient visitors to the museum and its layout
- Engage with guests and interpret maritime exhibits and local history
- Lead informal or scheduled tours for families, individuals, or small groups
Assist with hands-on activity stations, special programs, or school field trips - Stay informed on current and rotating exhibits with materials provided
- Help monitor galleries and maintain a safe, clean environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Friendly and outgoing, with strong communication skills
- Comfortable speaking with the public, including children and families
- Interest in Great Lakes, Boating, or local history
Training provided—no prior experience required!
