Who We Are

Good Samaritan Hunger Center (GSHC) was founded in 1982 as a service from the Catholic Commission in response to hunger on the city’s west side. Sister Jordan Haddad began the agency as a pot-luck congregate meal. The mission simply stated that…’one day no man, woman or child will go hungry’. GSHC has recently updated the mission statement: To alleviate food insecurity for individuals and families in the Akron Area. GSHC serves all of Akron with the following programs: Mobile food pantry at multiple community centers. Produce drops to provide more fresh food to the community. A Senior Box program providing additional food to area seniors and a Kids Bag program providing weekend food for 4,000 children in Akron Public and Parochial Schools twice per month. This represents 20% of the student population

What We Do

Distribute food to those facing food insecurity. For this project we will pack Buckeye Bags to be distributed to children in Akron Public Schools.
