Columbus State Community College Day of Service

Who We Are

Day of Service is a strategic committee from Columbus State Community College.

Community and civic engagement is at the core of Columbus State’s strategic agenda. While College staff, faculty, and students continually interact and support the community in many different ways, our annual Day of Service event provides a large-scale demonstration of the College’s commitment to service. #CStateServes

1. What is Day of Service and why do we do this?

What began as a 50th anniversary project for Columbus State Community College has transformed into a major annual service day to give back to Central Ohio. With the college campuses closed for business hours on the last Tuesday of September, faculty, staff, and students have the option to fan out across Central Ohio to volunteer at social service agencies for a “Day of Service.”

Day of Service provides an average of nearly 2,500 volunteer hours each year, with an estimated total collective financial benefit of $75,000 for the non-profit agencies where the work has been performed. It's also a great opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to give back and make meaningful connections.

2. When and where is Day of Service?

The next Day of Service will take place Tuesday, October 3rd, 2023. The College will be celebrating its 60th year anniversary. Day of Service will take place at over 50 organizations throughout the Columbus, Delaware and Regional Campus areas with some opportunities available on campus and remotely. In 2022, Day of Service organized 70+ service opportunities with 50+ agencies and almost 900 participants for a total of 2,600 plus hours of service to our local community! For a final breakdown on numbers, please see articles here.
