Who We Are

Manahan, formerly known as Josina Lott Residential and Community Services, was founded in 1979 by Fred & Judy Fleischer. They had two disabled sons and wanted them in a smaller, home-like facility rather than a large, institutional setting. The original name honored Josina Lott, a DD pioneer in the 1930s.

Our mission is to enrich the lives of persons with developmental disabilities by providing quality services, safe environments and opportunities for self-determination and community integration.

  • Volunteers must complete an application and a one-time orientation prior to participating in events.

What We Do

Manahan serves adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD). Manahan works with the individuals on relationship building, goal-oriented tasks and skills that provide a sense of accomplishment and independence.

At our residential campus we provide a home to over 25 adults in beautiful park-like setting. We also offer respite... a temporary place for a family’s loved one to stay (various reasons including vacation, a break, considering admission)

At our day program, River Crossings in Sylvania, we work on personal skills, have vocational opportunities to earn a paycheck by shredding documents or performing light office cleaning, offer numerous opportunities for community integration, leisure options and skill development and give back by volunteering.

In the Community, we offer personal attention, assist with day-to-day skills including shopping, cooking, budgeting & having fun. This service provides the opportunity for those living with developmental disabilities to find their place in society while learning how to understand and maintain relationships
