Join us as we restore Gamble Montessori's rain garden, enhance outdoor learning spaces, and refresh campus grounds.  Your efforts will help create welcoming environments where students can learn, explore, and connect with nature throughout the school year.  

This is a joint activity with Gamble-Nippert YMCA and Gamble Montessori Elementary School.

The Perry Cook Community Garden is a project inspired by a large outdoor area connected to the Perry Cook Memorial Library in Johnsville.  Here, there is already some activity taking place that extends the vibrant library's educational mission. It provides hands-on opportunities with raised and tabletop garden beds, promotes environmental education partly with it's thriving three year old native pollinator garden, and seeks to expand and enhance the garden to better serve the surrounding community by improving the space in such a way as to increase meaningful community connection with a newly designed performance space/celebration venue, and new paved sidewalks to make it accessible to people of all generations and abilities.

                The community is invested in the improvement of this space. There are groups and individuals that volunteer on a regular basis to keep it clean and cultivated. Community members look forward to this project's impact in nurturing the positive attributes the library brings to the community. The desire to create a legacy for future generations is imbedded in the larger library garden plan which includes literacy and wellness programs, enriching soil for sustainable growing, and developing seating, signage, and gathering areas that ensure the space is welcoming for all.

             One of the biggest upcoming workdays for the garden will take place during the Serve Ohio Grant Day on Saturday, 6/20 from 9:00 AM- 3:00 PM. Community members are invited to volunteer for all or part of the day as the garden team works together to prepare the space for the busy summer ahead. 

Join us for Serve Ohio Day at the Athens Photo Project Community Garden! We’re looking for volunteers to help us build a new garden shed and take part in general garden beautification projects. Come spend the day outdoors, connect with the community, and help create a more welcoming and accessible space for creativity, wellness, and growth. All skill levels are welcome! #ServeOhio #SODay26

Building Hope at United Missionary Baptist Church is a ServeOhio Day initiative focused on improving and expanding the church’s childcare and pantry spaces to better serve families throughout the Dayton View and West Dayton communities. Volunteers will assist with painting, organizing, flooring installation, hauling materials, labeling pantry inventory, and building small furnishings to create welcoming, functional spaces for community support services.

The United Missionary Baptist Church Community Renewal Project is a ServeOhio Day initiative focused on improving and expanding the church’s childcare and pantry spaces to better serve families throughout the Dayton View and West Dayton communities. Volunteers will assist with painting, organizing, flooring installation, hauling materials, labeling pantry inventory, and building small furnishings to create welcoming, functional spaces for community support services.

Our students and staff will participate in two primary service activities focused on supporting food access in our community. On the first day, students will volunteer at the Freestore Foodbank warehouse, where they will assist with sorting, packing, and organizing food donations. During this experience, participants will also learn more about how the Freestore Foodbank serves the region and addresses food insecurity. On the second day, our students and staff will work together to pack food and donations purchased through this grant. These items will then be donated to the Freestore Foodbank to support their ongoing distribution efforts. This project is especially meaningful because of our longstanding partnership with the Freestore Foodbank, which consistently supports GRAD Cincinnati and our schools by providing food for our pantries and meals for our after-school programs. Through this initiative, volunteers will not only give their time and service but also contribute tangible resources, allowing us to give back to an organization that has had a significant impact on our students and community.

Where we will need additional volunteers is delivering the boxes to the Freestore Foodbank and this is where your help comes in.

The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes (NCSL) is continually increasing our community tree canopy.  We plant trees for habitat restoration - we remove invasive trees and plant native trees.  This major project will plant 25 trees at one time with volunteer help.  NCSL instructors will spend time with each volunteer to train them in the proper steps for planting trees.

Volunteer activities will include the following: planting the native trees, constructing and securing protective cages around the trees using wire fencing, and mulching trees afterwards for moisture retention.  Volunteers will gain valuable skills and firsthand experience in proper tree planting, as well as a sense of accomplishment in participating in an important and lasting habitat restoration project at the Nature Center. 

The Village of Lakemore is working with SuperLearning Center to build a greenhouse where native aquatic plants will be grown.  These plants will be used to create more floating wetlands to place in Springfield Lake.  These floating wetlands will absorb high nutrient stormwater to reduce harmful runoff entering Springfield Lake.

We had landscaping done in May to the front of the building (North) and will need help in landscaping on the sides (East and West). We will provide the flowers, mulch, paint, gloves, and lunch. Planned on 6/20 with rain date 6/27

Please help us with inside renovations (including painting) and outside cleanup at the Resurrection Center!

We are looking for volunteers to prep the site for a new inclusive playground at Alexander Elementary School. This will involve removing old equipment, shoveling dirt, filling holes with dirt, hauling equipment and lots of fun!
