Volunteer: Museum Docent

Reports to: Executive Director / Education & Outreach Coordinator
Time Commitment: Flexible shifts; preferred 4-6 hours per week during public hours

Museum docents are the welcoming face of the Maritime Museum! As a docent, you'll greet visitors, interpret exhibits, answer questions, and help create a fun and engaging museum experience. This role is perfect for history lovers, storytellers, and friendly faces who enjoy sharing knowledge with guests of all ages.

Key Responsibilities:

Welcome and orient visitors to the museum and its layoutEngage with guests and interpret maritime exhibits and local historyLead informal or scheduled tours for families, individuals, or small groups
Assist with hands-on activity stations, special programs, or school field tripsStay informed on current and rotating exhibits with materials providedHelp monitor galleries and maintain a safe, clean environment


Preferred Qualifications:

Friendly and outgoing, with strong communication skillsComfortable speaking with the public, including children and familiesInterest in Great Lakes, Boating, or local history

Training provided—no prior experience required!
