Volunteer: VIGIL NODA "No One Dies Alone" Hospice Volunteers Needed in Green

CorsoCare Hospice is seeking compassionate, empathetic individuals who are willing to give their time and supportive presence to become Vigil NODA "No One Dies Alone" volunteers. These incredibly special volunteers are asked to provide support to our actively dying patients in facility settings and private homes. Please note: If you are new to hospice or NODA volunteering, as part of your training, you will be asked to serve as a Companion Volunteer for a period of 1-2 months to ensure it is a fit. This is due to the sensitive nature of NODA Volunteering and is subject to Volunteer Coordinator approval.

Volunteer: Pet Companion Hospice Volunteers Needed in Uniontown

It has been found that petting or cuddling an animal can reduce anxiety, lower blood pressure and heart rate, and ease depression. Because a primary goal of hospice services is comfort care, pet companionship is ideal for hospice patients.

CorsoCare Hospice has volunteer opportunities for individuals and their gentle, well-behaved pets to visit hospice patients in facility settings and occasionally private homes. Pets must be at least one year old, current on their veterinary shots, and must be "interviewed" by our staff. To be considered, animals do NOT have to be certified therapy  - though therapy animals are much needed as well. We can provide resources to certify an animal at the owner/volunteer’s expense should you desire this certification.

CorsoCare provides all PPE necessary to ensure a safe and enriching experience on every visit. You will also be provided ongoing one-on-one staff support throughout your service with us and will be invited to education opportunities and appreciation events.

If you have any questions, or need further information, please contact Nikki Gerber, Volunteer Administrative Assistant, at (248) 260-8257 or nicole.gerber@corsocare.com.

"We don’t always need advice. Sometimes, all we need is a hand to hold, an ear to listen, and a heart that understands. Sometimes all we need is a dog."

Organization: CorsoCare Hospice

Can you spare an hour for an elderly hospice patient? CorsoCare Hospice recently expanded into Ohio and is seeking compassionate, empathetic individuals who are willing to give their time and supportive presence by visiting hospice patients in facility settings and occasionally private homes.

Our volunteers share their time in many ways and may include reading to the patient, taking a walk, playing cards, watching TV, chatting or some other low-key activity the patient feels up to doing. Sometimes just sitting with them is enough.

CorsoCare provides all PPE necessary to ensure a safe and enriching experience on every visit. You will also be provided ongoing one-on-one staff support throughout your service with us and will be invited to education opportunities and appreciation events.

Volunteer: A Resolution You Can Keep: Be a Mentor

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Butler County seeks adults from our community to be volunteer mentors ("Bigs") for children and youth in Butler County. There are approximately 100 youth who are waiting for a mentor.

Being a mentor is about spending time with a child and inspiring them to fulfill their potential. We pair a volunteer mentor one-to-one with a child and we call this a match. Once matched, Big Brothers and Big Sisters develop friendships with their Little Brothers and Little Sisters. It’s that simple.

Our Community-Based Bigs and Littles meet 2 to 4 times a month out in the community and the time spent together is flexible to fit your busy schedule.

You can hang out in the community and go to a park, an event, a restaurant, or many other possibilities. It’s up to you and your Little! Volunteer: Mentoring is better together: Be a Big Duo

Being a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters is a fun, rewarding experience. The only thing that would make it better is to volunteer with someone you know! This is a great opportunity for couples, friends, siblings or other "dynamic duos" who want to be more involved in their community in 2023.

Big Duos are two people who volunteer together as mentors for either one or two children ("Littles"). Being a Big Duo is the same as being an individual Big Brother or Big Sister - you get together with your Little 2 to 4 times each month engaging in fun, enriching activities that you and your Little both enjoy - you're just volunteering with another person instead of alone.

Who can be a Big Duo?

Big Duos are two people who have an established, healthy relationship and are both committed to the importance of mentoring. Examples of Big Duos include:

Spouses or partners Best friends Coworkers Adult siblings Parent and their adult child

Both individuals who are part of a Big Duo must submit separate applications and complete an interview and background check. Both must live or work in or near Butler County. As with all programs at Big Brothers Big Sisters, each individual volunteer must be qualified before they can be matched with a Little. Bigs and Littles are matched based on many factors, including location, personality, and shared interests.

CLICK HERE to apply online, or email Jessica.Huentelman@bbbsbutler.org for more information.

Volunteer: AARP Tax-Aide Volunteers

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, which suspended operations in Delaware County two years ago as the pandemic worsened, is preparing to return this winter and is looking for volunteers to help restart the service.

The all-volunteer program provides free, no-strings-attached, income tax preparation to anyone, but places a special emphases on serving senior citizens. Before the shutdown, Tax-Aid volunteers prepared tax returns for more than 1,000 residents each year in Delaware, Sunbury, and Orange Township and had just expanded into Ashley.

Volunteers provide a calm and reassuring hand to people who are often fretful about filing their return, make sure clients receive every tax benefit to which they are entitled and save them the often-significant amount of money that private tax preparers charge.

Volunteers make a real, meaningful and measurable difference in the lives of the people they help.

Volunteers come from all walks of life, from accountants to warehouse workers. No experience is required. Tax-Aide provides training, a computer to work on and mentorship throughout the tax season. No one works alone.

For more information, please go to aarpfoundation.org/taxaidevolunteer, 1-888-227-7669 or email DelawareOhioTaxAide@gmail.com.

Volunteer: UTMC Volunteer (ongoing)

We need volunteers to help in different areas around the Hospital and Clinics. Once a person is cleared to volunteer we work with them to find a department that needs volunteers and aligns with their schedule and interests. Volunteers are required to volunteer a minimum of 2 to 3 hours a week, for three months or more (unless otherwise agreed upon).

Although the specific positions below are not always open, here are some examples of roles a volunteer might have:

Liaison Assistants greet patients and guests upon arrival, answer questions about the hospital, give directions, and assist with the registration line.

Gift Shop Volunteers work in the hospital gift shop located in the main lobby of the hospital building. Volunteers help customers, work the register, take phone calls, and make deliveries.

Surgery Waiting Room Volunteers help our surgery staff by attending to patient and visitors, maintaining a peaceful environment in the waiting area, answering phone calls, and escorting patients to their surgery location.

Clerical Office Volunteers support clerical and clinical staff with office tasks including answering phones, labeling charts, filing, faxing, and making deliveries, while maintaining a high level of confidentiality.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the University of Toledo Medical Center! If you would like more information or have any questions, please contact us at VolunteerServices@utoledo.org or (419)383-6330.

Volunteer: Adopt-A-Garden

We are looking for a volunteer or a small group of volunteers with gardening knowledge and experience to lead a group of able-bodied residents in preparing and maintaining the space. Volunteers will plan and manage the activities, guide the residents through the process and assist with tasks the residents are not able to accomplish on their own. If you have gardening skills that you are willing to share, please contact: Margaret Mullen at (216) 939-7601 or mmullen@st-aug.org. Or, if you are ready to apply, our volunteer application can be accessed at Volunteers...
