A Court Appointed Special Advocate, or CASA volunteer, may be appointed by a judge to advocate for a child when they enter the child welfare system due to allegations of abuse or neglect.

CASA volunteers advocate for the best interest of a child and make informed recommendations for the child’s physical and emotional well-being to the judge. CASA volunteers get to know the child, parents and their family in order to provide valuable information to the judge and others involved in the case to help ensure the child’s best interest is being met.

NAMI Family-to-Family is a free, evidence-based, 8-week educational program for family, significant others and friends of people with mental health conditions. Family is something different for everyone; and we at NAMI Portage want to recognize that. We want to embrace different definitions of family. NAMI-trained volunteer leaders who have lived experience as family members of a person with a mental illness teach about mental health diagnoses/symptoms, current therapies/treatments, communication strategies, coping skills, and self-care.

We are looking for someone with lived experience as a family member/caregiver of someone living with a mental health condition to teach our Family-to-Family course.

Peer-to-Peer is an eight-session educational program for adults with mental health conditions who are looking to better understand themselves, their diagnosis, and their recovery. NAMI-trained volunteer leaders with lived experience provide a safe, confidential space where participants learn about setting goals, mental health treatment options, how to strengthen personal relationships and partner with healthcare providers, and stress management/self-care.

We are looking for a peer, living with a mental health condition, to teach our 8-week course. 

CONNECTION support groups are peer led support groups open to all adults that have experienced symptoms of a mental health condition. These support groups are 90-minutes; and are led by NAMI-trained individuals. These groups are a safe space to share one’s coping strategies, learn from each other’s experiences, and offer acceptance and understanding.

We are looking for an individual with lived experience as someone living with a mental health condition to facilitate a support group for fellow peers.

Family support groups are volunteer led groups for family members and loved ones of someone that has experienced symptoms of a mental health condition. Family is something different for everyone; and we at NAMI Portage want to recognize that. We want to embrace different definitions of family.   The Village of Lakemore and SuperLearning Center students will build floating wetlands and launch them into Springfield Lake.  These floating wetlands will help soak up stormwater runoff and filter the water for the aquatic life in Springfield Lake.

Our goal is to provide basic health screenings, answer questions, and provide resources for follow-up care.   Students will assist with blood pressure and blood glucose screenings as well as Point-of-care HgA1c testing.

Coaches attend 8 hours of training and are expected to co-lead two sessions yearly. The classes with the seniors are fund and the rewards are great!

Our senior adult day service is a safe place for seniors to go and be able to stay active in their community, a place to go while their caregiver works or is outside the home. Each day the center offers games, activities, hot meals and snacks as well as individual attention.

As a volunteer, you will assist with activities throughout the day and serve as a companion to the participants.

Help students achieve their GED by volunteering your time and skills to help tutor them. These opportunities are offered Monday, Wednesday and Friday. You will be paired with a student and will follow them through their journey to graduation!

The Coordinator role is part of a student leadership team or board, who report to the executive director in Dayton, Ohio. The first step in kicking off a new group is to build a leadership team and a number of other participants. You'll work as a team to recruit and kick off the club and then help promote and maintain it over time. We have a head start, but we can use your help! You'll have direct support from the executive director and others.

We appreciate your commitment to bring more kindness than ever before to our community — and to empowering our youth to lead the charge!

Our Ambassador opportunities are flexible both in scheduling and in the variety of ways to help. Each month, we will share a list of Ambassador opportunities and you can choose what best fits your schedule and interests. Ambassador opportunities take 1.5 - 3 hours of time and the majority of them can be completed from home. An Ambassador’s time commitment is flexible, although we ask you sign up for at least four opportunities per year.

Offer 20-minute Introduction to Alzheimer’s presentations for community organizations, congregations, civic organizations, sororities / fraternities, clubs and other locations.

Promote support groups, education programs, Alzheimer & Brain Awareness Month, Walk to End Alzheimer’s, or The Longest Day using your local connections, bulletin boards, social media and physical displays in your community.

Connect the Alzheimer's Association to new community organizations and connect people with additional Association services and volunteer opportunities.

Community Educators:

Volunteer musicians meet with patients in a facility or private home and sing, play their instrument or just play recorded music for a period of time. We will build hoops for low row cover protection of frost. We will also straw in some beds that have produce growing. Repair waterlines and irrigation system. We will be using battery powered sanders to smooth benches preparing them for stain for overwinter protection. We will have youth from community and the local Columbus City School ,South High school as volunteers.  There will some new beds that will be build fand filled with soil for additional youth vegetable production. We will also be planting some Native Prairie Grass Pollinators also. We will work for two weekends on this project. We want this farm to be a place of not only production but of beauty and a place to appreciateate in the community.

Seeds of Literacy, an award-winning nonprofit organization that provides free GED prep and basic education to adults in the Cleveland area, has an urgent need for people just like you to volunteer as adult literacy tutors. The shocking truth is that an estimated 66% of adults in Cleveland are functionally illiterate, and may struggle with everyday necessities like reading a bus schedule and understanding medication labels.

This is where you can make a very real difference! Tutors work one-to-one with students to improve reading, writing, and math skills, offer encouragement and support, and help students develop positive attitudes towards learning.

Generally we ask that tutors come to one class session per week (that's 1% of your week!) for one year. We can, however, make accommodations for those with special circumstances.

Classes are two hours long, and we offer a flexible class schedule with sessions scheduled throughout the day to accommodate personal preference and availability. Tutoring sessions take place in our Virtual Classroom on Zoom.
