Impact

Horticulture at Five Rivers MetroParks creates, maintains, and preserves green space and habitats for pollinators and native plants, as well as educates visitors on sustainable gardening practices and local food production.  Gardening volunteers support the Horticulture and Outdoor Connections staff in a variety of gardening tasks.

There are many opportunities to help. Volunteers prepare, deliver, and serve meals; wash dishes; play games with children; help with homework; fold brochures; pack lunches; assemble fundraising baskets; and spend time with guests.

Shifts in the adult shelter are daily 5:30am-7am or 7pm-11pm; in the Family Shelter daily 4pm-7pm and various times for administrative, professional, labor or special events help.

Wesley Chapel Mission Center is a community-centered ministry serving children, youth, and families in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. The Mission Center provides a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment where students from kindergarten through high school can grow academically, socially, and spiritually.

Through after-school programs, tutoring, mentoring, meals, recreation, and enrichment activities, Wesley Chapel helps young people build confidence, develop life skills, and succeed in school and beyond. The organization is committed to fostering meaningful relationships, strengthening families, and creating opportunities for hope and growth within the community.

Wesley Chapel also relies on dedicated volunteers and community partners who help create a caring atmosphere where every student feels valued, encouraged, and empowered to thrive.

We are looking for volunteers who would like to commit a few hours weekly to help out at the United Way office with various clerical needs.

The Fitton Center for Creative Arts is currently seeking volunteers to help with their 2026 Season Launch event!

The event takes place on Friday, August 14th from 5 - 9pm at the Fitton Center for Creative Arts, and is a big open-house for the community!

Volunteer tasks include greeting guests at the front door, assisting office staff with directing guests, gallery guide help, and more!

This is an indoor event, and snacks, water, coffee, and pop will be provided for all volunteers in a volunteer break room. Volunteers do not need to volunteer for the entire event, they are scheduled in 1-hour shifts, so you can choose to do just one hour, the whole event, or anything in between!

This Shadow Experience opportunity is for those volunteers in training to serve as a Historic Interpreter Volunteer. You will be partnered with a qualified and experienced volunteer and/or Staff Lead during this shadow experience to observe, learn, and practice the skills needed to fully qualify as a Historic Interpreter.

Through oral history, letters, diaries, government records, and other primary and secondary sources, a picture of a lifestyle emerges that Carriage Hill interpreters can bring to life for the public. Volunteers represent what living in the 1880s might have been like, and help visitors make a stronger connection to the history of Carriage Hill and the experience of life on an 1880s working farm.  Historic interpreter volunteers allow people to enjoy an experience at the historic farm, see demonstrations of simple everyday farm tasks, and get a personal introduction to life on the farm. 

The interpretative purpose of the farm is to use the Arnold Family, who once lived at Carriage Hill Farm, as a guide to how a real conservative farm family is in real-time at a real place. Volunteers represent what living in the 1880s might have been like, and help visitors make a stronger connection to the history of Carriage Hill and experience life on an 1880s working farm.

Carriage Hill Farm Chores

Program Support

The Fitton Center for Creative Arts will be taking part in the Liberty Township Fall Festival with a free craft!

We will be setting up a booth at the festival to offer guests a free fall themed craft, and are currently seeking volunteers to help run the booth.

Volunteer duties include handing out supplies, helping guests with questions, assisting guests with the craft, and keeping the are tidy. Fitton Center staff members will be present during the whole event, so will train volunteers on the craft, and help volunteers during the event.

Volunteers do not need to sign up for the whole event, they can work any hours they would like, from just 1 hour to the entire event.

Water will be provided, as well as chairs for volunteers, but it is an outdoor event, so please dress according to the weather!

The Fitton Center for Creative Arts is taking part in Operation Pumpkin in 2026 with a free craft and pumpkin racing booth!

The Fitton Center will have a free activity for guests to take part in, where they will decorate a mini-pumpkin and then have the chance to race it in a mini derby race, and is seeking volunteers to help run the craft portion of the activity!

Volunteer duties include handing out supplies, helping guests with questions, assisting guests with making the craft, and keeping the area tidy. Fitton Center staff members will always be present, to show volunteers how to make the craft itself, and working along side volunteers.

The event itself is from 11am - 5pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, but volunteers will be scheduled in hourly shifts, so you don't have to work the whole event if you don't want to! You can sign up for as many hours as you'd like.

Water will be provided at the booth for volunteers, as well as chairs, but it is an outdoor event so volunteers will need to dress for the weather!

We provide food to active duty, veterans & their families and surviving spouses. We also provide a place for them to interact for camaraderie, building model planes, boats, trains, play cards, quilting, sewing, etc. We also provide greenhouses for veterans to grow food that will get handed out at the pantries. In addition, we host Potluck Breakfasts for various holidays and provide training on benefits for veterans. We are in need of personnel to help us receive, stock, pack and hand-out food to veterans, as well as greeters and people interested in aiding the veterans at the site.

We're looking for enthusiastic, driven individuals aged 16 and older to help make our BT5K Breakthrough for Brain Tumors event a huge success. Lend a hand out on the course, at the event site, with pre- or post-event activities, as part of the planning committee, or in one of many other ways.

Blue Star Families was founded by military family members to empower military families to thrive as they serve. They (15 families) will be camping, enjoying nature, and the trails and features at MetroParks. Volunteers should enjoy working with families, be excited about exploring the night sky, and sharing their time and talents to support the programming team to put excitement and perspective into the evening's activities. Volunteers will assist with activities that highlight the night sky, share interesting constellation stories, and help campers discover constellations that can be seen.   Astronomy Assistant volunteers will assist with the assembly and use of the education telescope. The volunteer opportunity is for those familiar with astronomy and will assist with the astronomy activities and training program support volunteers for their roles in activities.   

Impact

Volunteers enable us to accomplish so much more by lending a hand in various activities.  They may demonstrate proper use of specialized equipment (ie. telescope), share their skills and experience to increase additional volunteer participation, and introduce other volunteers and participants to exciting science and night sky exploration.

Program Support

**Note: This opportunity is only open for volunteers in training to be qualified Barn Aides at the Carriage Hill Riding Center. **

Barn Aide volunteers are critical to providing daily care for the horses and the equestrian facility in which these beloved animals live, work, and play. Now that you have completed your virtual and scheduled in-person training, you are ready to shadow qualified volunteers and Carriage Hill Riding Center staff to practice the skills needed to become a qualified Barn Aide volunteer.  

You'll work alongside qualified volunteers and staff at scheduled shadow experience shifts to practice these tasks until you are able to check off and begin completing these tasks more independently as a qualified barn aide volunteer.

Plus, once you qualify as a Barn Aide volunteer by completing your check off, you become eligible to participate in additional training to support a variety of equestrian programming opportunities at the Carriage Hill Riding Center.

Volunteers complete essential operational tasks and hands-on daily care alongside qualified volunteers and staff during these scheduled shadow experiences to ensure the good health and well-being of our horses allowing the Riding Center facility to function on a daily basis.

This opportunity is open to the following volunteers: Long-Term and Youth volunteers, ages 14 and up, who have completed the required prerequisite training and are able to make an ongoing commitment to service at the Carriage Hill Riding Center.  Short term volunteers willing to commit 8 shifts or more may be considered.

SELF volunteers join SELF staff to help low-income Butler County homeowners with free home repairs and mobility modifications.

All skill levels are welcome!  Volunteers may serve individually or as a group. Homes need assistance year-round. We will match you with a project that meets your skill level, interests and your schedule. In 2023, Ohio ranked twelfth in the nation in drug overdose deaths. Mercy Health and AmeriCorps have partnered to build MERCY SERVES, a diverse, energetic, volunteer corps providing compassionate, patient-centered support in Mercy Health Emergency Departments across Southwest Ohio. Day-to-day, Mercy Serves members work alongside nurses, providers, social workers, and coordinate with community organizations to improve patients’ access to culturally competent care, treatment, and community resources. Mercy Serves members provide patient education, substance use and mental health risk screening, social  drivers of health screening, emotional support, and referrals to treatment and social services for Emergency Department patients. 

Mercy Serves is recruiting a class of 2 full-time and 18 half-time AmeriCorps members to serve an 11-month service term in 9 Mercy Health emergency departments in Cincinnati and Springfield.

​The 2nd Street Market supports small, local entrepreneurs with a strong emphasis on food, agriculture, gardening, and home decor in an atmosphere that provides a comfortable and inviting gathering place for the diverse population of the greater Dayton area. Our 2nd Street Market is looking for WEEKEND custodial support to help us keep the place sparkling clean. Not only will you get to flex your cleaning muscles, but you'll get to meet and interact with some amazing people from your community.

Five Rivers MetroParks provides clean, safe parks and conservation areas for the public to enjoy year-round. Our Park Maintenance volunteers help to manage and sustain 18 beautiful parks, 11 conservation areas, and 160 miles of hike, bike, mountain bike, and horseback-riding trails for park visitors to safely enjoy.

Under the supervision of the Staff Lead, support and assist with the following:

April is when many gardens and farms begin preparing their soil and planting seeds for the growing season. Because frost can linger through March, growers often have to wait until the ground stays warm overnight. This spring, our youth volunteers and staff will support community gardens and farms by helping with tilling—a service the city once provided for free but has paused due to administrative and funding changes.

Volunteers who support Trail Maintenance help MetroParks provide safe, consistent, and high-quality trail experiences for visitors with varied interests and levels of abilities in a manner that protects and sustains the natural resources and habitats at each park.

Under the supervision of the assigned staff, support and assist with the following:

​Basic trail maintenance at Eastwood and Huffman MetroParks, including the MetroParks Mountain Biking Area (MoMBA), including corridor clearing, drainage clearing, and tread maintenance. Work will include using tools such as loppers, pruning saws, rakes, hoes, and shovels.

In this ongoing project, volunteers have the opportunity to asses native plant bloom times and populations within select Wood County Park District parks. This project allows volunteers to play a vital role in identifying both native and invasive species and determine where those species are, allowing the stewardship department to create better management plans.

The Native Plant Monitoring program runs from April 1st to October 1st. 2026, and all hours spent volunteering will need to be recorded by December 1st, 2026.

Teachers, students, and master gardeners will be working together to create a community garden at Peachblow Crossing Elementary. Through student-led presentations, volunteers and community members will gain a deep understanding of how the School Pollinator Garden at Peachblow Crossing Elementary creates lasting impact across multiple ecological and educational dimensions. Students will share their firsthand experiences and research about the garden's role in supporting local bird and insect populations, demonstrating how this initiative extends beyond the school grounds to benefit the entire community. The garden's integration into the Pollinator Pathway of Delaware County represents a significant step toward creating a larger network of pesticide-free corridors that provide essential habitat and nutrition for pollinators and birds. As part of this broader initiative, the School Pollinator Garden will serve as a vital link in connecting habitats between local schools and community spaces, fostering biodiversity and ecological resilience throughout the region. This connection to the larger Pollinator Pathway network not only amplifies the garden's environmental impact but also provides volunteers with a tangible example of how local conservation efforts contribute to broader regional sustainability goals.

Help Preserve Our Parks' Stories! Do you love local history and want to make a lasting impact? Five Rivers MetroParks is seeking volunteers to help document the historical significance of our parks - especially those that joined our system from the City of Dayton in the 1990's. 

As a Historical Research volunteer, you'll collect and organize historical records, photos, and data researching park histories using archives, libraries and online resources, and catalog your findings into searchable formats for future interpretation. Best of all - you can work independently with regular check-ins with MetroParks staff, or at scheduled shifts with fellow volunteers and MetroParks staff. 

This research helps us document the historical significance of Five Rivers MetroParks and adds richness to how we can interpret the parks to the public.

iC.A.R.E. Mentoring, a program of Red Oak Behavioral Health, matches caring adults to mentor one student, once a week, for one school year. Our volunteers work with K-12 students in the Akron, Barberton, Cuyahoga Falls, and Tallmadge public schools. We support our volunteers with training, supplies, and a fun & interactive workbook that covers important skills such as goal setting, resilience, and self confidence.

Make a real impact on the lives of Ohio students and their surrounding community - become an AmeriCorps member.  Serve as an advisor and mentor and guide Ohioans by providing the information they need to prepare for, access, and complete a postsecondary credential. 

The AmeriCorps College and Career Guides deliver workshops and advising on college and career exploration and planning to 8th through 12th graders and adult learners. While providing service, members develop marketable advising, mentoring, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

This position is a full-time commitment of 1,700 service hours to be completed 40 hours per week in 11 months in August 2026 through June 2027.  College and Career Guides will receive a living allowance up to $30,000 or $2,727.68 monthly before taxes, and an education award up to $7,395 upon completion of service.

College and Career Guides are eligible for free health care insurance and childcare, and their qualified Federal student loans are eligible for forbearance during time of service.

College and Career Guides receive ongoing skills training and professional development.

This opportunity is for pop-up needs of the Park District. It may involve in office administrative work, fieldwork, or anything in between. Volunteers communicate with staff members to determine what is needed, when, and where. 

To assess butterfly populations along transects within designated Wood County Park District parks. This ongoing project allows volunteers to play a vital role by informing the stewardship department of what species are being seen in parks and their relative numbers, and also in contributing to the picture of butterfly populations around the state in submitting the data to Ohio Lepidopterists. 

Help tend the heritage gardens at the Carter Historic Farm. We will donate most of the produce to the Brown Bag Food Pantry and the remainder will be utilited to teach programming in traditional life skills 

Assisting the Stewardship Department with the native plant program by transplanting seedlings and performing other tasks in the warmth of the greenhouse.

This AmeriCorps position promotes youth nutrition, garden education, and community engagement. The member administers weekly healthy snack demonstrations using seasonal produce, highlighting nutritional benefits and sharing creative ways for youth to try fruits and vegetables. Produce grown in the community garden is delivered to the Summer Food Program site in Elyria to support daily meal preparation for participants. The member maintains the Oberlin community garden by planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting crops while leading garden tours for youth and community members. These tours provide hands-on education about growing food, local food systems, and the importance of healthy, sustainable eating. AmeriCorps Members will support healthy food access & nutrition education initiatives serving the Cleveland community. Members will lead interactive, youth-friendly culinary demonstrations featuring fresh, seasonal produce available through our garden & local food system partners. Members will research and develop weekly nutrition themes aligned with seasonal produce availability; create and test simple, culturally relevant recipes that families can prepare at home; and facilitate engaging healthy-eating demonstrations for youth and families. They will also participate in garden operations, including planting, weeding, watering, fertilizing, and harvesting. Conduct educational garden tours. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, engaging with youth and community members, & supporting equitable access to healthy foods. We are looking for compassionate, caring individuals 55 and older to serve as Foster Grandparents in structured settings such as schools, libraries, day cares, etc.

Foster Grandparents provide mentorship to at risk children through activities such as reading, fine motor activities, small groups, and more.  

Eligible Foster Grandparents may receive a small, non-taxable stipend that does not affect other benefits such as SNAP benefits, subsidized housing, social security, etc.  Foster Grandparents also enjoy mileage or public transportation reimbursement, paid holidays, 40 hours of benefit time every three months, paid training, and more.

Help Preserve Our Parks' Stories! Do you love local history and want to make a lasting impact? Five Rivers MetroParks is seeking volunteers to help document the historical significance of our parks - especially those that joined our system from the City of Dayton in the 1990's. 

As a Historical Research volunteer, you'll collect and organize historical records, photos, and data researching park histories using archives, libraries and online resources, and catalog your findings into searchable formats for future interpretation. Best of all - you can work independently with regular check-ins with MetroParks staff. 

This research helps us document the historical significance of Five Rivers MetroParks and adds richness to how we can interpret the parks to the public.  

African Women for Change Network (AFNet) is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to support the AFNet 2026 Global Leadership Conference, a high-impact gathering of leaders, advocates, and change makers from across the U.S. and around the world.

This exciting event will feature professional networking, leadership sessions, and community engagement focused on empowering women and advancing global change.

Participants enjoy canoes and kayaks on a first-come-first-serve basis between 4:00 – 7:30pm.

All equipment provided. VOLUNTEERS will be responsible for checking participants in, fitting and sizing of life jackets and paddles, beginner instruction (when appropriate and comfortable), positive public interaction, and serving as safety eyes. Training provided at the time of volunteering.

Ohio University has the goal to increase the quality of life in Athens County through AmeriCorps members creating and supporting social and physical environments that promote good health and wellness for all. COMCorps will partner with host-site organizations which include schools, nonprofits, healthcare systems and county-level government agencies. Through service, members and organizations will address social determinants of health with a trauma-informed approach directing members in creative, community-generated solutions to pressing local needs. Members will create and support social and physical environments that promote good health through activities that address the social determinants of health by providing life-enhancing resources: healthy food supply, gardening, social connectivity, transportation, and knowledge of healthy habits. Members will promote a sense of community (social networks, social support, social participation, and/or community leadership) and increase access to programs that address poverty, childhood development, food insecurity, social exclusion, addiction, food, transportation, and health services. In every interaction, members will embody and model safe, secure, stable relationships for children and adults. COMCorps is where members turn passion into purpose.
