Visitor Center Ambassadors share their enthusiasm for Five Rivers MetroParks with diverse audiences at the Visitor Centers at Carriage Hill and Cox Arboretum MetroParks. Ambassadors are often the first friendly faces a visitor sees welcoming them to the park and can be counted on to share helpful information and answer a variety of questions.

Join the Stewardship Department with a special co-leader, Community and Communications specialist and Cherokee Nation member, Jessie Walton-Summers, at W.W. Knight Preserve for a fun morning of planting native trees and shrubs! For Indigenous Peoples Day, we'll share some cultural stories and relationship between native plants and Indigenous people. The goal of this program is to restore the forest ecosystem behind the nature center where previous Habitat Heroes programs removed large patches of invasive buckthorn. Long pants and long sleeves are recommended. Closed-toed shoes required. Tools, instructions, and snacks provided.

Volunteers needed on Mondays or Thursdays from mid-June through late-July 24, 2026.   Most volunteers serve as group guides for school age children grades K-12, divided into 6 age groups.   Group guides get to know the kids (all at-risk, 80% BIPOC), accompany the kids through their learning stations and assist the kids, if needed, at the station.   Times are 11:45am - 2:30pm. 

Most kids stay in the program long-term; there are VERY FEW behavioral issues.   Learning stations are: Literacy, Healthy Living, Bible, and Fun (group games) for elementary.  Teens have Bible study and emotional/relational skills.  Station leaders do teaching at the stations - curriculum is provided.   

When you select a position (most volunteers serve once a week), you are committing to all weeks of the program, but you will have the opportunity to enter any dates you cannot volunteer as you signup.   Have children? They are welcome to enjoy the program as you volunteer!

Have only a few weeks to volunteer?   Feel free to volunteer as a sub.

All volunteers are background-checked and trained.   Volunteer training is provided a week or two before the program begins.

(east of the 36/37 merge behind the bowling alley - go into the bowling alley parking lot and follow to the building behind it). We provide food to active duty, veterans & their families and surviving spouses. We also provide a place for them to interact for camaraderie, building model planes, boats, trains, play cards, quilting, sewing, etc. We also provide greenhouses for veterans to grow food that will get handed out at the pantries. In addition, we host Potluck Breakfasts for various holidays and provide training on benefits for veterans. We are in need of personnel to accept, mark and stock food donations, bag food for veteran pickup and conduct inventories monthly.

Looking for a certified plumber to volunteer at M.A.S.H. (Military And Service Heroes) by installing piping and a deep sink into the kitchen area to help us serve meals for our veterans during special holiday potlucks.  M.A.S.H. will pay for any parts if volunteer will not change for labor. This is a one-time event that will require running new piping approximately 20 feet and connecting to a deep sink.  M.A.S.H. provides food and services to our Military Active Duty, Veterans, their families and surviving spouses.

M.A.S.H. (Military And Service Heroes) is looking for a volunteer certified electrician to  install some outlets in our warehouse for our large freezer and refrigerator that supports food that is provided to military active duty, veterans, their families and surviving spouses in central Ohio.   M.A.S.H. will pay for any parts required, if person will not charge labor. This will require putting in new wire and heavy-duty outlets that can support these large appliances in order for us to keep donated meat, chicken, cookies, vegetables, bread and other items frozen and to hold milk, butter, cheese and other perishable items cold for distribution to the veterans in our community.  This is a one-time event whenever available to provide the service.

The AmeriCorps Youth Peer Support Specialist will provide direct peer-to-peer support, mentorship, and guidance to youth who are experiencing challenges related to mental health, substance use, navigating difficult life transitions, or other social-emotional needs. Drawing on their own lived experiences, the Peer Support Specialist will serve as a relatable role model, fostering hope, empowerment, and a sense of belonging for program participants. This position is a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of young people while gaining valuable experience in the fields of youth development, social work, and public health.

Peer Support and Mentorship: Develop and maintain supportive, trusting relationships with youth participants, acting as a positive role model. Share personal experiences of recovery, resilience, and successful navigation of challenges in a way that is empowering and appropriate. Listen empathetically to youth concerns, offering non-judgmental support and validation. Assist youth in identifying their strengths, goals, and developing coping strategies. Provide encouragement and motivation to engage in positive activities and healthy behaviors.

Resource Navigation and Support: Connect youth with appropriate community resources, including mental health services, substance use treatment, educational support, employment opportunities, housing assistance, and social services. Support youth needs within systems (e.g., school, juvenile justice, healthcare, etc.) as appropriate and with proper consent. Help youth navigate complex systems and understand their rights.

Group Facilitation: Co-facilitate or lead workshops, and psychoeducation sessions on topics relevant to youth well-being (e.g., stress management, communication skills, healthy relationships, goal setting, etc.). Create a safe and inclusive environment for group participation.

Documentation: Maintain accurate and confidential records of interactions with youth, progress toward goals, and referrals.

Professional Development: Complete required AmeriCorps program documentation and reports in timely manner. Participate in regular supervision (at host site) and team meetings (at Talbert House). Actively participate in all AmeriCorps and program-specific training, including those related to peer support ethics, youth development, Mental Health First Aid, cultural competencies, and others as identified by program. Engage in ongoing personal and professional growth.

Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to demonstrate empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental attitude toward all youth. Punctual, dependable and able to manage a flexible schedule, which may include some evenings or weekends. Ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team. All skill levels are welcome!  Volunteers may serve individually or as a group. Homes need assistance year-round. We will match you with a project that meets your skill level, interests and your schedule. It's our way of joining together with our neighbors throughout Butler County to give back in a way that will build a solid foundation for the future. Each 'Building Block Event' is tailored to one of the building blocks for a good life: Youth Opportunity, Healthy Community, and Financial Security.

Hope House Mission is a faith-based ministry, serving homeless men, women, and children by providing comprehensive programs and services designed to promote long-term, sustainable life transformation. In preparation for the winter months, we recognize the importance of providing even basic necessities and are collecting socks to donate to Hope House for those in their care. Building Block events are our way of joining together with our neighbors throughout Butler County to give back in a way that will build a solid foundation for the future. Each Building Block event is tailored to one of the building blocks for a good life: Health, Financial Stability/Basic Needs, or Education.

Our 'Books and Brews' education event will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, where we will assemble literacy kits for young children. These educational kits will include the book "If You Give a Pig a Pancake" by Laura Numeroff, illustrated by Felicia Bond , plus glue, crayons, and scissors. The items within the literacy kits will be used interactively as the children read the book. The supplies for this event were generously provided through a donation from Kiwanis Lindenwald Hamilton Fairfield. 

The finished literacy kits will be provided to the Butler County Educational Service Center to be distributed throughout their many early childhood education programs.

We invite you to join us by volunteering your time to build the kits.
Muncipal Brew Works has generously donated the space for our event;
food and beverage are available for purchase.

We need your help to keep great books accessible to communities 24/7. Visit Little Free Libraries in your community to distribute books! 

We can suggest where to look for free or inexpensive books, or if you already have some, you can share those too. You can find book-sharing boxes near you using our world map or free mobile app. Volunteers over 18 anywhere in the U.S. where there are Little Free Libraries can register for this opportunity.

Once you sign up, you will get access to tips & resources that you review independently online. Our Little Free Library staff can answer your questions by email. You can share books whenever it works for you.

The Crabill Homestead is located on 2800 Croft Road in Buck Creek State Park. Our docents give tours of the household, which was built by David and Barbara Crabill in the early 19th century. 

Do you enjoy working with the public and helping others find their way? Our Front Desk Associates make sure our visitors have an enriching experience at the Heritage Center. 

Front Desk volunteers typically work a single 2-hour block per week, but we can be flexible with your schedule. We typically try to have 2 people (maximum 3) working the front desk at one time. Please contact Donna Lewis for more details on when we need front desk coverage.

(Military And Service Heroes) is seeking a creative and passionate Volunteer Videographer to capture the stories, impact, and mission of our organization through high-quality video production. This volunteer will help produce engaging content for social media, fundraising campaigns, website features, educational presentations, and community outreach.

Our mission is to serve veterans, active-duty military, military families, and surviving spouses with commitment, compassion, and respect while strengthening the veteran community. Your videos will help inspire volunteers, donors, corporate sponsors, and the community to become part of that mission.

Primary Responsibilities

M.A.S.H. is a non-profit organization with centers in Delaware and Grove City, Ohio that provides a place for active duty, veterans, their families and surviving spouses to get food, camaraderie, support as well as visiting local nursing homes.  We are looking for someone with fundraising experience to help us find the determine the best opportunities for raising money to help support the centers, organizing them and working with companies to be sponsors.  This person will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and supporting fundraising activities that generate financial resources, community awareness, and donor engagement. This volunteer works closely with the organization's leadership, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners to ensure fundraising efforts are successful and align with the nonprofit's mission.  Look at our website at https://www.mashpantry.org to learn more about M.A.S.H.  Will be required to attend meetings once a week with leadership on plans, as well as a monthly meeting with an Advisory Board.  Can work from home, as well as work at our 540 Sunbury Rd. The Daniel Arnold Historic Farm offers a captivating glimpse into the past, attracting visitors every year. This unique destination provides more than just an overview of history; it presents an engaging and immersive journey back to the 19th century, where visitors can uncover the rich stories of the Arnold family and the vibrant life of farming during that era.
One of the main attractions for visitors is the craft shops, and the blacksmith shop served as an essential hub for crafting and repairing the tools that kept the farm running smoothly. The pride in craftsmanship comes to life as volunteers demonstrate techniques and assist with projects on the current farm.

Impact

Historic Blacksmith volunteers provide interpretation and demonstrations for the Blacksmith shop on the Daniel A Arnold Historic Farm.  They represent what living in the 1880s might have been like, and help visitors make a stronger connection to the history of Carriage Hill and experience life on an 1880s working farm.

Tasks include answering phones, preparing documents, helping with mailings, and other miscellaneous tasks as needed. No prior office experience is needed and we will train.

We are looking for extra office help from:

     9-1pm on Monday

     9-1pm and 1-4pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays

We need people willing to commit to a 4- or 5-hour shift to monitor our guests while they are in the building. Monitors will answer the office phone, distribute bed linens, make coffee, run the dishwasher, light cleaning as needed, open tote rooms for guests to obtain their personal items, and other miscellaneous tasks. Depending on the shift hours, bed linens may also need to be laundered.

Our monitors are people willing to help the less fortunate in non-judgmental ways. We provide professional social services when requested so you do not need to be a counselor or professional social worker in order to volunteer. We do train and we are flexible with scheduling.

These are our current shifts that need additional people:

     4:00pm-9:00pm     Tuesdays

     4:00pm-9:00pm     Fridays

     4:00pm-9:00pm     Saturdays

     4:00pm-9:00pm     Sundays

     5:00am-9:00am      Monday, Wednesday, Friday

We can also use people who cannot commit to a regular schedule but would be willing to fill in when someone cannot fill in on their regular shift due to illness or vacation time.

Join the stewardship department at Otsego Park to celebrate Pawpaw season! Learn about North America’s largest edible native tree fruit, and Ohio’s official state native fruit! We will be planting Pawpaws, along with other native trees and shrubs along our riparian forest restoration area to replace the invasive species that were cleared out during previous Habitat Heroes programs. Long pants and long sleeves are recommended. Closed-toed shoes required. Tools, instructions, and snacks provided. Please note that the work area will be on a slope.

Volunteers can enhance their outdoor cooking skills by learning techniques and recipes from the 19th century while helping visitors experience this unique program. This demonstration program will involve preparing a simple meal cooked over a small fire with 19th-century stoves and modern firebox stoves. Volunteers will support the 2nd Saturday Cookery activities at the Historic Farm. Each month, the demonstrations will feature different items, but all recipes are from 19th-century resources - Camp Cookery and Marion Harlan's cookbooks (especially the picnic-style recipes). These skills can be valuable during power outages, camping trips, hiking excursions, and emergencies. The cooking will take place near the summer kitchen on the historic farm grounds.  Volunteers will participate in the upcoming month's meal plan and assist with preparing the current meal.

Program Support Volunteers at the Historic Farm contribute their time and talents, adding an extra layer of engagement to activities and enhancing the visitor experience. Program Support Volunteers are welcome and can participate in various entry-level opportunities to support our programs—typically, no expert knowledge is required. However, volunteers who support the cookery programs should have some culinary experience. This opportunity will focus on a 19th-century interpretive demonstration using recipes from the 19th-century cookbooks.

Impact

Volunteers enable us to accomplish so much more by lending a hand in simple activities, allowing demonstrators to take a break, or talking with the visitors about the activities while allowing the tasks to be completed.

The interpretative purpose of the farm is to use the Arnold Family, who once lived at Carriage Hill Farm, as a guide to how a real conservative farm family is in real-time at a real place. Historic Blacksmith volunteers bring the history of the Daniel Arnold Historic Farm to life by interpreting 19th-century farm life, interpreting the Blacksmith shop and it's tool, and demonstrating basic techniques needed for the repairs on the farm.   This Shadow Experience opportunity is for those volunteers in training to serve as Historic Blacksmith for the Daniel Arnold Historic Farm at Carriage Hill MetroPark. You will be partnered with a qualified and experienced Historic Blacksmith volunteer and/or Staff Lead during this shadow experience to observe, learn, and practice the skills of a Historic Blacksmith. Period clothing is not required for this shadow experience; however, if you move forward to fully qualify as a Historic Blacksmith, period clothing will be required.

Gallery 22 - The Arts Castle's downtown Delaware art gallery and shop - is seeking volunteers to help us fulfill our mission of nurturing the creative energies of the residents of Delaware County and beyond by providing accessible, rotating art exhibits as well as offering handmade items and artwork for sale. 

In this volunteer role you will be responsible for processing sales and payments for Gallery 22 shoppers as well as educating visitors about the current art on display. You will also help promote the mission of Gallery 22 and The Arts Castle by informing guests of our offerings. You will also assist in tidying up and cleaning the gallery when needed.

Shifts are typically 2-2.5 hours, although how many hours you would like to contribute per day/week is up to you. You may be occasionally asked to help in distributing marketing flyers for new shows, events, and classes (both at Gallery 22 and The Arts Castle) as well as assisting in the set up/tear down of exhibits. Occasional special events/parties may occur, such as the annual Holiday Art Fair reception (generally in November) requiring more volunteers than normal. 

Retail experience (Square POS) is a plus but not required; training will be held to help you become familiar with the system if selected.

The expectations of the position can be adjusted depending on physical ability and preference. Volunteers are always welcome to pair up and/or bring a buddy for their shifts!

This Shadow Experience opportunity is for those volunteers in training to serve as a Pony Ride Assistant. You will be partnered with a qualified and experienced Staff Lead during this shadow experience to observe, learn, and practice the required skills.

Volunteering as a Pony Ride Assistant is a fun and interactive way to help at the Riding Center if you enjoy being around young children (age 2 - 8) and families. For many of our riders, a Pony Ride is their first interaction with an equine, and their experience with us creates a lasting memory. Volunteers hand-lead ponies while the children ride, or act as a spotter, walking alongside the pony during the ride. 

The Pony Ride Assistant opportunity is only open to those current Carriage Hill Riding Center volunteers who have completed 20 hours of service as a Barn Aide. For more information on how to get started as a Barn Aide, please visit our Carriage Hill Riding Center Volunteer Training page.

Impact

Help us share our conservation message with the next generation while providing routine animal care for our most important ambassadors! Five Rivers MetroParks Wildlife Ambassadors assist our education team in sharing our conservation message with community members of all ages at a variety of programs, events, and outreach opportunities year-round. Wildlife Ambassador Animal Care Volunteers provide daily care for these important animal ambassadors year-round at the Twin Valley Welcome Center so that they can continue sharing our message.

Join our Outdoor Recreation team and help create an enjoyable experience for participants exploring new MetroParks and outdoor activities in a supportive and safe environment! Our Hiking for Older Adults program is designed to equip individuals with the essential knowledge and skills they need to embark on day hikes with confidence and ease. Volunteers will assist participants in discovering the benefits of using trekking poles, which will be available for everyone to try. With the guidance of our staff, volunteers will enhance the hiking experience as participants explore the beauty of nature, increase their physical activity, and uncover new trails.

This opportunity will be at Possum Creek MetroPark, and hiking the purple trail, an easy-to-moderate trail.  The purple trail itself is 1.4 miles and is located in the natural areas of the park.

There are many opportunities to help. Volunteers prepare, deliver, and serve meals; wash dishes; play games with children; help with homework; fold brochures; pack lunches; assemble fundraising baskets; and spend time with guests.

We are looking for volunteers who would like to commit a few hours weekly to help out at the United Way office with various clerical needs.

The Fitton Center for Creative Arts will be taking part in the Liberty Township Fall Festival with a free craft!

We will be setting up a booth at the festival to offer guests a free fall themed craft, and are currently seeking volunteers to help run the booth.

Volunteer duties include handing out supplies, helping guests with questions, assisting guests with the craft, and keeping the are tidy. Fitton Center staff members will be present during the whole event, so will train volunteers on the craft, and help volunteers during the event.

Volunteers do not need to sign up for the whole event, they can work any hours they would like, from just 1 hour to the entire event.

Water will be provided, as well as chairs for volunteers, but it is an outdoor event, so please dress according to the weather!

The Fitton Center for Creative Arts is taking part in Operation Pumpkin in 2026 with a free craft and pumpkin racing booth!

The Fitton Center will have a free activity for guests to take part in, where they will decorate a mini-pumpkin and then have the chance to race it in a mini derby race, and is seeking volunteers to help run the craft portion of the activity!

Volunteer duties include handing out supplies, helping guests with questions, assisting guests with making the craft, and keeping the area tidy. Fitton Center staff members will always be present, to show volunteers how to make the craft itself, and working along side volunteers.

The event itself is from 11am - 5pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, but volunteers will be scheduled in hourly shifts, so you don't have to work the whole event if you don't want to! You can sign up for as many hours as you'd like.

Water will be provided at the booth for volunteers, as well as chairs, but it is an outdoor event so volunteers will need to dress for the weather!

The interpretative purpose of the farm is to use the Arnold Family, who once lived at Carriage Hill Farm, as a guide to how a real conservative farm family is in real-time at a real place.
