Volunteers will be stationed near the entrance and will enhance the visitor experience by greeting and welcoming visitors. Volunteers will also conduct sales of MetroParks merchandise, process EBT sales, provide wayfinding assistance, and promote the MetroParks by passing out literature.

Volunteers enhance the visitor experience and help curate the Market’s unique, vibrant culture for our customers who then support our vendors in providing sustainable local food to the community.

​The 2nd Street Market supports small, local entrepreneurs with a strong emphasis on food, agriculture, gardening, and home decor in an atmosphere that provides a comfortable and inviting gathering place for the diverse population of the greater Dayton area. Our 2nd Street Market is looking for WEEKEND custodial support to help us keep the place sparkling clean. Not only will you get to flex your cleaning muscles, but you'll get to meet and interact with some amazing people from your community.

Five Rivers MetroParks provides clean, safe parks and conservation areas for the public to enjoy year-round. Our Park Maintenance volunteers help to manage and sustain 18 beautiful parks, 11 conservation areas, and 160 miles of hike, bike, mountain bike, and horseback-riding trails for park visitors to safely enjoy.

The Carter Historic Farm staff and volunteers have been working hard all year long to raise and produce food and champion sustainable agriculture. This Farm Breakfast will feature the harvest and reward of the good work.

To assess butterfly populations along transects within designated Wood County Park District parks. This ongoing project allows volunteers to play a vital role by informing the stewardship department of what species are being seen in parks and their relative numbers, and also in contributing to the picture of butterfly populations around the state in submitting the data to Ohio Lepidopterists. 

Join us during this all-day event and help the stewardship staff clean native seeds that were harvested from Park District properties last year. Individuals who volunteer their time and talents help put excitement and perspective into the activities offered by our programming teams.   Astronomy Assistant volunteers will assist with the assembly and use of the education telescope, help children and their teachers be able to find points of interest in the sky and get them excited to explore the sky. This volunteer opportunity is for those familiar with astronomy and will assist with the astronomy activities and assist in training program support volunteers for their roles in activities.   

Volunteers enable us to accomplish so much more by lending a hand in various activities.  They may demonstrate proper use of specialized equipment (ie. telescope), share their skills and experience to increase additional volunteer participation, and introduce other volunteers and participants to exciting science and night sky exploration.

Additional Notes

Kitchen Volunteer - Mon-Fri from 9:30-11:30 and 11:30-1:30. This will be to assist with prepping food, serving, and clean-up after lunch.

The volunteer will drive our PIN truck to a local Delaware Co. grocery store and pick up their donations of bakery items, produce, and other food items.  They will bring the food back to PIN to be weighed and recorded by category on a donation form.  They will then stock the donated items in the warehouse and/or pantry.  Volunteer can choose the day that works best for their schedule.

Heartland Hospice of Dayton is looking for compassionate people to join our volunteer team to become a Friendly Volunteer to one of our amazing patients!

What will I be doing? 

As a friendly volunteer, you will be connected to one of our wonderful patients to visit and provide companionship in their home or a facility.

We have an office in Kettering.  Our patients are living in their own homes or in a facility across the Dayton area covering 7 counties.   We will do our best to connect you with someone near you. 

What kind of commitment will this take? 

We are very flexible with your schedule and will work with what you are able and wanting to do. You can visit once a week, twice a week or something that works with your schedule. 

What is required of me to becoming a volunteer? 

There is no experience needed. We will provide all the training you need at no cost to you.

We do require a Background Check, Drug Screening, Fingerprint and TB Test. We cover all cost and walk you through the whole process.

Make a real impact on the lives of Ohio students and their surrounding community - become an Ohio College and Career Guide AmeriCorps member and serve as an advisor, mentoring and guiding Ohioans to receive the information they need to prepare for, access and complete a postsecondary credential.  The College and Career Guides deliver workshops and advising on college and career exploration to 8th through 12th graders; provide support to 11th and 12th graders on postsecondary access and affordability; and facilitate successful postsecondary transitions, persistence and ongoing college affordability coaching with high school graduates.  Develop advising, mentoring, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

This position is a full-time commitment of 900 service hours to be completed in 6 months, starting on January 5, 2026.  College and Career Guides will receive a modest living allowance up to $16,000 or $1,333.34 bimonthly before taxes, and an education award up to $3,697.50 upon completion of service. Additionally, College and Career Guides are eligible for health care insurance and childcare, and qualified Federal student loans are eligible for forbearance during time of service. The AmeriCorps Ohio College and Career Guides receive ongoing skills training, and professional development opportunities. Applicants must have earned an Associates degree (required) or Bachelors degree (preferred) or higher, or be a college senior.

Luminary Hospice is seeking volunteers who sing or play an instrument to share their love of music with a hospice patient.

Many hospice patients have strong connections to music, whether it reminds them of a particular time in their life or simply brings them peace. Our patients are nearing the end of their lives and music can be a powerful means of connecting them to past memories or providing comfort.

What does a hospice volunteer musician do?

Volunteer musicians meet with patients in a facility or private home and sing, play their instrument or just play recorded music for a period of time. Volunteers are encouraged to interact with the patient, discuss music, or even play music from their phone. Visits are scheduled at times that are convenient for you.

What if I don’t have any experience?

Luminary Hospice provides exceptional training for its volunteers. Hospice volunteers receive the same orientation as paid staff in addition to their volunteer-specific training. Our training covers hospice history and basics, as well as special considerations surrounding grief, ethics, and bereavement. About the Program: The Miami County ESC works closely with Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams from area school districts to provide a specialized learning environment for students (Kindergarten through 12th grade) at the Cooperative Learning Center. Along with academic instruction, students attending this school focus on building positive social skills, emotional regulation/coping skills, and increased communication. Instruction is available for students that require modified curriculum (aligned with Ohio’s extended content standards). Also, students have the opportunity for vocational and functional life skills training. Our staff partners with families and outside agencies to provide comprehensive support to students as they work toward their individual goals.

The Appalachian Ohio Restore Corps (AORC) mobilizes 70 AmeriCorps members to help educate youth and the public, restore, conserve, and preserve environmental resources, improve food distribution to people in poverty, support reduced waste and recycling initiatives, and support economic resilience through conservation and sustainability projects.

Appalachian Ohio Restore Corps members serve a term of 16-12 weeks accumulating a total of 450 - 300 hours of community based service, an average service load of 20-28 hours a week. These summer opportunities run May 26th - August 8th (12 weeks) or August 23rd (16 weeks)

Tutors work with elementary school students to help them improve literacy skills one-hour per week. Tutors work with an assigned student in a group setting, strengthening skills such as phonics, word recognition, decoding, & reading aloud. 

CTI will train all tutors prior to prepare them to build a mentoring relationship and to help strengthen reading skills.

Winter is a great time to get out on the trails to discover things of interest and learn more about MetroParks.  To help get people started, these led hikes add engagement and encouragement.  All family members, young and old, can find a trail that suits their needs, but some individuals like to start new behavior changes with some support.  Our Outdoor Recreation team creates a learning environment to help individuals enjoy the outdoors in fun and safe activities.  Volunteers will support the staff lead and participants as they enjoy nature, increase their activity, and discover new trails and ways to improve physical and mental health in MetroParks. This opportunity will be at Carriage Hill MetroPark and will roughly be a 1.3-mile hike exploring the local history, natural features, and nature discoveries.

Volunteer Reviewers will log-in to a virtual one-hour orientation webinar to review the application instructions and process. Assist the Stewardship Department with the native plant program by transplanting seedlings and performing other tasks in the warmth of the greenhouse.

We need people willing to commit to a 4-hour shift to monitor our guests while they are in the building. Monitors will answer the office phone, distribute bed linens, make coffee, run dishwasher, light cleaning as needed, open tote rooms for guests to obtain their personal items, and other miscellaneous tasks. Depending on the shift hours, bed linens also need to be laundered.

Our monitors are people willing to help the less fortunate in non-judgmental ways. We provide professional social services when requested so you do not need to be a counselor or professional social worker in order to volunteer. We do train and we are flexible with scheduling.

These are our current shifts that need additional people:

     4:00pm-9:00pm     Tuesdays

     4:00pm-9:00pm     Wednesdays

     4:00pm-9:00pm     Saturdays

We could also use people who cannot commit to a regular schedule but would be willing to fill in when someone cannot fill in on their regular shift due to illness or vacation time.

Deep cleaning our facility in the kitchen, dorms, bathrooms, common areas and laundry room.

Wash and dry bedding, towels, washcloths. Our guests will do their own personal laundry.

Answer phones, prepare documents, help with mailings, miscellaneous tasks as needed. No prior office experience is needed and we will train.

Volunteers needed on Mondays or Thursdays from June 2 through July 24, 2025.   Most volunteers serve as group guides for school age children grades K-12, divided into 6 age groups.   Group guides get to know the kids (all at-risk, 80% BIPOC), accompany the kids through their learning stations and assist the kids, if needed, at the station.   Times are 11:45am - 2:30pm. 

Most kids stay in the program long-term; there are VERY FEW behavioral issues.   Learning stations are: Literacy, Healthy Living, Bible, and Fun (group games) for elementary.  Teens have Bible study and emotional/relational skills.  Station leaders do teaching at the stations - curriculum is provided.   

When you select a position (most volunteers serve once a week), you are committing to all 8 weeks of the program, but you will have the opportunity to enter any dates you cannot volunteer as you signup.   Have children? They are welcome to enjoy the program as you volunteer!

All volunteers are background-checked and trained.   Volunteer training is May 19 at 7pm or May 22 at noon.

Stockhands Horses for Healing was founded in 2014 based on the belief that horses have the power to heal. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit that provides equine-assisted therapeutic riding services to children and adults living with mental, physical, and emotional challenges. 

We rely on our volunteers to assist with our adaptive riding lessons, maintain our large facility, and care for our herd of 30+ horses. If you do not have any experience working with horses, we will teach you everything you need to know!

Join Five Rivers MetroParks horticulture education team and support family programming throughout the year that connects visitors of all ages to the natural world through storytime,  gardening, and meaningful exploration of the outdoors! This opportunity will focus on a storytime followed by a related activity that follows the theme of the garden-related story.  Help us share amazing stories with children, exciting them about discoveries they can find in nature, and encouraging them to get outside and explore.

Environment & Physical Demands:  This opportunity is indoors.  The market may be cool in the winter and warm in the summer. This is a family program, and volunteers should enjoy working with kids and families.

Parking & Meeting Instructions: Parking is available at the 2nd Street Parking lots. Volunteers are scheduled to arrive 1/2 hour before the program begins for set up and a brief orientation, review of roles and activities, and to gather supplies needed.  Please arrive early to park and check in.   You will meet the staff lead in the Pavilion or dining area.

Dress:  Please dress appropriately for the weather.  Wear your volunteer name badge, and if you have one, your volunteer T-shirt.

Drawing on their own lived experiences, the Peer Support Specialist will serve as a relatable role model, fostering hope, empowerment, and a sense of belonging for program participants. This position is a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of young people while gaining valuable experience in the fields of youth development, social work, and public health.

Peer Support and Mentorship: Develop and maintain supportive, trusting relationships with youth participants, acting as a positive role model. Share personal experiences of recovery, resilience, and successful navigation of challenges in a way that is empowering and appropriate. Listen empathetically to youth concerns, offering non-judgmental support and validation. Assist youth in identifying their strengths, goals, and developing coping strategies. Provide encouragement and motivation to engage in positive activities and healthy behaviors.

Resource Navigation and Support: Connect youth with appropriate community resources, including mental health services, substance use treatment, educational support, employment opportunities, housing assistance, and social services. The Volunteer Receptionist assists in the daily operations of the administrative office, including incoming and outgoing calls, answering the main entrance door and greeting guests. This role will assist with maintaining administrative data processes, procedures, protocols and tools for the highest level of customer service to all neighbors, guests, volunteers and staff. For this volunteer position we do require applicants to interview and go through our selection process.

Our order ahead program allows our neighbors in need to order groceries online and schedule their pick-up time on Wednesdays. We have a need for a volunteer to help administer the program, they will be responsible for receiving phone calls from neighbors calling in to pick-up orders. The order ahead volunteer will also take orders to neighbors. Pick-ups are scheduled between 10am and 7pm. Volunteers generally work in two or three hour shifts.

Travel: Statewide and local travel is required. Members will travel to Columbus 5-6 times per year for training, as well as traveling to outreach or survey sites as often as several times per week. Qualifications: Members preferably have a college degree or similar level of experience and a passion for history, public history, museum studies, anthropology, other humanities, library sciences, historic preservation/architectural history, education, or related fields. Some event planning, community development, heritage tourism, and/or museums experience a plus but not required.

Mercy Health and AmeriCorps have partnered to build Mercy Serves, an energetic, volunteer corps serving in Mercy Health Emergency Departments across the state of Ohio to prevent and reduce substance and opioid use. As a part of the broader opioid epidemic response, AmeriCorps members provide patient education, substance use risk screening, emotional support, and referrals to treatment and social services for Emergency Department patients. AmeriCorps members work alongside nurses, providers, and social workers to ensure that patients receive necessary support and resources to make healthy choices and encourage behavior change.

Mercy Serves is recruiting a class of 15 AmeriCorps members to serve a half-time, 11-month service term in 7 Mercy Health emergency departments in Cincinnati and Springfield.

The Mercy Serves AmeriCorps Member will:

As an AmeriCorps program, this is a TEMPORARY, 11-month service position. Compensation is paid in the form of a bi-weekly living stipend and professional development training/opportunities. Member is eligible to receive education award upon completion of all service requirements.

Required Minimum Education: High School Diploma/GED

Preferred Education: College level classes in a relevant field (Public Health, Psychology, Sociology, Pre-Med, or similar)

A Court Appointed Special Advocate, or CASA volunteer, may be appointed by a judge to advocate for a child when they enter the child welfare system due to allegations of abuse or neglect.

CASA volunteers advocate for the best interest of a child and make informed recommendations for the child’s physical and emotional well-being to the judge. CASA volunteers get to know the child, parents and their family in order to provide valuable information to the judge and others involved in the case to help ensure the child’s best interest is being met.

Kent Distribution - 1st Wednesday of each month from 9am - 10:30 am.  Location:  1972 East Summit St., Kent, 44240, across from the Kent Christian Life Center.

This role is dedicated to managing and interacting with the Veterans that Operation Meraki serves. The Veteran Outreach team will work closely with veterans to assess their needs, provide guidance, and connect them with appropriate resources. This role is critical in fostering relationships between veterans, Veteran Organization Partners, and Operation Meraki, ensuring veterans receive the support and assistance they require.

NAMI Family-to-Family is a free, evidence-based, 8-week educational program for family, significant others and friends of people with mental health conditions. Family is something different for everyone; and we at NAMI Portage want to recognize that. We want to embrace different definitions of family. NAMI-trained volunteer leaders who have lived experience as family members of a person with a mental illness teach about mental health diagnoses/symptoms, current therapies/treatments, communication strategies, coping skills, and self-care.

We are looking for someone with lived experience as a family member/caregiver of someone living with a mental health condition to teach our Family-to-Family course.

Peer-to-Peer is an eight-session educational program for adults with mental health conditions who are looking to better understand themselves, their diagnosis, and their recovery. NAMI-trained volunteer leaders with lived experience provide a safe, confidential space where participants learn about setting goals, mental health treatment options, how to strengthen personal relationships and partner with healthcare providers, and stress management/self-care.

We are looking for a peer, living with a mental health condition, to teach our 8-week course. 

CONNECTION support groups are peer led support groups open to all adults that have experienced symptoms of a mental health condition. These support groups are 90-minutes; and are led by NAMI-trained individuals. These groups are a safe space to share one’s coping strategies, learn from each other’s experiences, and offer acceptance and understanding.

We are looking for an individual with lived experience as someone living with a mental health condition to facilitate a support group for fellow peers.

Family support groups are volunteer led groups for family members and loved ones of someone that has experienced symptoms of a mental health condition. Family is something different for everyone; and we at NAMI Portage want to recognize that. We want to embrace different definitions of family. Each group is 90-minutes; and led by NAMI-trained volunteers.
