Swim on over to W.W. Knight to assist with our Jr. Explorers: Fish program! You'll help program participants learn about the fish that call the Maumee river home, assist children with fishing when needed, and build up their confidence and skills!
It is preferred that volunteers have previous experience fishing, including but not limited to: tying knots, baiting a rod, taking fish off hooks, and basic fish ID skills.
Please arrive at 9:30 am to help finish setting up for the program and become familiar with the gear and location. The program will start at 10 am with a maximum of 15 participants. At the program, we will do a short class on fishing basics and the fish of the Maumee River upstairs in the Friends’ Green Room. Then, we will either go outside or to the Hankison Great Room where the children will have the opportunity to practice casting with a fake fishing set. We will finish off the program by fishing outside at the W.W. Knight Nature Preserve pond shelter until 11:30 am. Please stay afterwards to help clean up, snacks will be provided!
