Participants canoe through the Maumee River islands with a naturalist and ODNR stream scientists and take part first-hand in analyzing the health of the river by catching and identifying caught macroinvertebrates. Volunteer duties may include managing paddling gear, paddling with an issued partner (staff or public), partaking in stream quality monitoring and using seine nets. Dress for the outdoor and for wading in the river – synthetic clothing is recommended, and closed toed shoes appropriate for walking on the river bed is required.
Must be experienced with canoeing, able to lift 40lbs, and have good mobility and flexibility to paddle, lift boats with a partner, bend, crouch, step over canoes, and wade in the water.
