The ServeOhio Day project undertaken by Inspiring Minds (IM) will address the need to develop an urban garden within the City of Warren, which is designated as a food desert. Inspiring Minds is a nonprofit established in 2006 that provides after school and summer youth enrichment programming for students in grades 3rd-12th grade. The garden project will be located at the IM facility and will be managed and cared for by students, volunteers, and staff. This project will benefit local youth and adult residents, as they will be able to participate in all aspects from preparing the garden to harvesting and using the fresh produce it provides. On June 24, volunteers will help install plastic garden fencing around the perimeter of the garden that includes the fencing itself as well as stakes to anchor it. Volunteers also will perform garden maintenance such as weeding, watering, etc., as planting will have taken place by mid- to end of May.
