Make a real impact on the lives of Ohio students and their surrounding community - become an Ohio College and Career Guide AmeriCorps member and serve as an advisor, mentoring and guiding Ohioans to receive the information they need to prepare for, access and complete a postsecondary credential.  The College and Career Guides deliver workshops and advising on college and career exploration to 8th through 12th graders; provide support to 11th and 12th graders on postsecondary access and affordability; and facilitate successful postsecondary transitions, persistence and ongoing college affordability coaching with high school graduates.  Develop advising, mentoring, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

This position is a full-time commitment of 900 service hours to be completed in 6 months, starting on January 5, 2026.  College and Career Guides will receive a modest living allowance up to $16,000 or $1,333.34 bimonthly before taxes, and an education award up to $3,697.50 upon completion of service. Additionally, College and Career Guides are eligible for health care insurance and childcare, and qualified Federal student loans are eligible for forbearance during time of service. The AmeriCorps Ohio College and Career Guides receive ongoing skills training, and professional development opportunities. Applicants must have earned an Associates degree (required) or Bachelors degree (preferred) or higher, or be a college senior.

What You’ll Do As a City Year AmeriCorps member, your service will focus on coaching and mentoring elementary, middle and/or high school students.  You will help these students earn academic success, improve their attendance, and develop positive behaviors at school. You will plan and monitor individual student progress and also work with teachers on whole class instruction, breakout spaces and other in-class student assistance.  
Your Role and Responsibilities As a valued member of the school community you will share in some or all of the responsibilities listed below. If you have not done all these things, that is okay. To support academic coaching and interpersonal development for students, you will:  
·        Work with identified students 1:1 and in small groups ·        Develop literacy and/or math skills varying learning activities by student level, answering student questions and encouraging assignment completion ·        Create and implement a behavior management system for students ·        Help build a safe, healthy and supportive classroom environment ·        Develop interpersonal skills throughout their day, using proven strategies of learning, practicing, reflection and repetition  ·        Collaborate with teachers and team members to collect, record, analyze and monitor individual student progress, participating in facilitated reviews of student data collected and entered into City Year’s student data system ·        Create an engaging, safe and healthy classroom space in collaboration with the teacher.  
Support Whole School initiatives to increase engagement with students and their families ·        Support start of day and transition times, such as hallways, recess, morning greeting and end of day departures for students ·        Support and/or conduct extended day and virtual programming for students before, during and after school including, but not limited to, academic enrichment and intervention, homework support, recreation and student clubs, service learning, and leadership development ·        Create, support and/or co-lead events or programs that recognize and appreciate student growth and/or achievement in math, literacy, attendance, and behavior

The AmeriCorps Youth Peer Support Specialist will provide direct peer-to-peer support, mentorship, and guidance to youth who are experiencing challenges related to mental health, substance use, navigating difficult life transitions, or other social-emotional needs. Drawing on their own lived experiences, the Peer Support Specialist will serve as a relatable role model, fostering hope, empowerment, and a sense of belonging for program participants. This position is a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of young people while gaining valuable experience in the fields of youth development, social work, and public health.

Peer Support and Mentorship: Develop and maintain supportive, trusting relationships with youth participants, acting as a positive role model. Share personal experiences of recovery, resilience, and successful navigation of challenges in a way that is empowering and appropriate. Volunteer: Community Connector Corps - Community Education Specialist

Join us for a rewarding year of service!  AmeriCorps is a great opportunity for a gap year, recent college graduates, and current college students. Veterans, older adults, and others seeking to make a difference in their community are also encouraged to apply. Positions include gain hands on experience working with students, families, or older adults in Cleveland, Ohio and beyond. 

Youth Focused Programing:  Help build the next generation of leaders by serving K-12 Cleveland Metropolitan School District students during the school day, in afterschool and summer programs. Depending upon your skills and interests, your home base will be with one of NCA’s following host site partner organizations. Each partner offers exciting and unique opportunities:

America SCORES Cleveland, Lexington-Bell Community Center, Open Doors Academy, Promise Academy and NCA’s Partners for Student Success (P4SS)

Older Adults:  Combat social isolation in older adults 55+ by delivering in person and remote programing. Sessions include individualized and/or group digital tech trainings (aimed at helping older adults overcome tech anxieties, build digital skills, and develop confidence), programing focused on health and wellness, art, gardening, book clubs, movies and much more!  Depending on your skills and interests, your home base will be with NCA’s IConnect program. 

Benefits of AmeriCorps Service

Living Allowance: Full-time members receive up to $21,000, 3/4-time members receive up to $16,891 and half-time members receive up to $12,668.

Gain training and professional development skills.

Earn a Segal Education Award equivalent to the maximum amount of the Pell Grant upon the successful completion of service hours: up to $7,395 (full time); $5,176.50 (3/4 time); $3697.50 (half time).  The education award may be used towards educational expenses or current/future student loans.

Commitment

Full-time members complete 1700 service hours (approximately 40-hours/week) 3/4-time members complete 1200 service hours (approximately 30 hours/week) Part-time members complete 900 service hours (approximately 20-hours/week)

Youth Focused Programing:  Help build the next generation of leaders by serving K-12 Cleveland Metropolitan School District students during the school day, in afterschool and summer programs. Depending upon your skills and interests, your home base will be with one of NCA’s following host site partner organizations. Each partner offers exciting and unique opportunities:

Older Adults:  Combat social isolation in older adults 55+ by delivering in person and remote programing. Sessions include individualized and/or group digital tech trainings (aimed at helping older adults overcome tech anxieties, build digital skills, and develop confidence), programing focused on health and wellness, art, gardening, book clubs, movies and much more!  Depending on your skills and interests, your home base will be with NCA’s IConnect program. 

Benefits of AmeriCorps Service

Living Allowance: Full-time members receive up to $21,000, 3/4-time members receive up to $16,891 and half-time members receive up to $12,668.

Earn a Segal Education Award equivalent to the maximum amount of the Pell Grant upon the successful completion of service hours: up to $7,395 (full time); $5,176.50 (3/4 time); $3697.50 (half time).  The education award may be used towards educational expenses or current/future student loans.

Ohio has ranked first nationwide in opioid deaths since 2014. Mercy Health is committed to lead the charge to change that statistic. Mercy Health and AmeriCorps have partnered to build Mercy Serves, an energetic, volunteer corps serving in Mercy Health Emergency Departments across the state of Ohio to prevent and reduce substance and opioid use. As a part of the broader opioid epidemic response, AmeriCorps members provide patient education, substance use risk screening, emotional support, and referrals to treatment and social services for Emergency Department patients. AmeriCorps members work alongside nurses, providers, and social workers to ensure that patients receive necessary support and resources to make healthy choices and encourage behavior change.

Mercy Serves is recruiting a class of 15 AmeriCorps members to serve a half-time, 11-month service term in 7 Mercy Health emergency departments in Cincinnati and Springfield.


The Mercy Serves AmeriCorps Member will:

Provide patient education about addiction and substance use to address stigma. Deliver screening, early intervention, and referral to treatment for patients at risk of substance use disorder utilizing the SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment) model. Provide linkages to healthcare and social service resources. Follow up with patients to continue providing support and treatment access after discharge. Collect data from patient encounters; maintain appropriate, accurate databases necessary for reporting and compliance activities; and provide pertinent reporting as needed. Participate in mandatory Mercy Serves team meetings and learning opportunities. Participate in mandatory AmeriCorps meetings and conferences to share member experience and program successes. Maintain comprehensive and accurate documentation of AmeriCorps service experience including number of hours served, trainings received, etc. Maintain internal and external contacts, including community-based organizations, to support patient needs. Represent the service-oriented aspects of the Mercy Health ministry, Community Health team, and Mercy Serves AmeriCorps program. Other duties as assigned, including specialized projects based on site needs and community outreach activities.


As an AmeriCorps program, this is a TEMPORARY, 11-month service position. Compensation is paid in the form of a bi-weekly living stipend and professional development training/opportunities. Member is eligible to receive education award upon completion of all service requirements.

This is a national service program with a living stipend and other benefits for individuals wanting to gain more experience and serve their community. Members will serve 1700 hours over a period of one year.

General duties:
• Assisting with a variety of natural resources related data collection for partners and the District.
• Field work including but not limited to: invasive species removal, tree planting, stream and litter cleanup.
• Assisting outreach staff to provide information and education at weekend events.
• Assist with host site projects.

Qualifications:
• Must be at least 17 years of age by their start date on October 1, 2023.
• Must have a HS Diploma or GED certificate.
• Members must be able to pass a criminal, FBI, and DMV background check (Note: having a background does not automatically exclude them from membership).
• Members must accept the position as a full-time priority and be able to complete 1700 hours of service.
• The ability to safely traverse and navigate through rough and brushy terrain with ticks and poison ivy in the summer heat while carrying GPS equipment is required.

The Central Ohio Collaborative for Conservation partners with 6 agencies in central Ohio where AmeriCorps Members will be placed, to improve local ecosystems and increase resilience against climate change. These partners include: Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks, Friends of the Olentangy Watershed, Grange Audubon Center, Licking County Soil and Water Conservation District, and Stratford Ecological Center.
This is a national service program with a living stipend and other benefits for individuals wanting to gain more experience and serve their community. Members will serve 1700 hours over a period of one year.

General duties:
• Assist in developing and implementing environmental education programs.
• Assist in developing and distributing outreach materials for public, local government, and business.
• Assist conservation staff with occasional field projects such as tree planting and invasive removal.
• Work with volunteers at your host site to do environmental stewardship projects.
• Assist with host site events.

Qualifications:
• Must be at least 17 years of age by their start date on October 1, 2023
• Must have a HS Diploma or GED certificate.
• Members must be able to pass a criminal, FBI, and DMV background check (Note: having a background does not automatically exclude them from membership).
• Members must accept the position as a full-time priority and be able to complete 1700 hours of service.
• The ability to safely traverse and navigate through rough and brushy terrain with ticks and poison ivy in the summer heat while carrying GPS equipment is required.
• Able to demonstrate some knowledge of or an appreciation for natural resource conservation.
• Able to secure transportation to and from work and events.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
• Familiarity with popular computer software (including, but not limited to, MS Word, Excel, and Publisher).
• Able to take direction and respond positively to feedback.
