Who We Are

FYI’s mission is to empower families and provide hope. Every day, families and youth are suffering from trauma caused by generational cycles of poverty and abuse. We are committed to empowering individuals and families to make informed choices that initiate long-term, positive change in their lives. We offer education and empathy, without judgment, that equips each person to employ effective coping skills and build healthy relationships.

What We Do

New Roots Mentoring: New Roots Mentoring enables dedicated adults to encourage and positively influence youth from diverse backgrounds and ages by promoting mental and emotional resilience. Our Student Mentors offer support to students by serving as a consistent presence in their lives. Mentoring occurs in one-on-one, group, classroom, and after-school settings. By modeling effective adult communication and coping skills, Student Mentors help youth express and regulate emotions, choose adaptive grounding strategies to manage environmental stressors, and reduce the likelihood of initiating substance use. Mentors engage over 300 elementary and middle school students annually. Parenting Network: The Parenting Network has 3 locations to serve expectant mothers and fathers, as well as parents or guardians of infants and children. Participants can earn material items such as cribs, car seats, strollers, diapers, clothing, etc, by completing lessons on pregnancy, childhood growth and development, parenting, relationships, and life skills. Lessons are offered digitally, providing participants with the opportunity to complete them at a convenient time. Our dedicated staff and mentors meet with clients during 1-hour sessions to review lessons and provide support. Parent Educators equip more than 225 families annually. Real Life Choices: Our team of Guest Educators is determined to prepare students for a sequence of success as they educate them about the outcome of their choices. They encourage youth to make healthy decisions by equipping them with tools to establish physical, emotional, mental, ethical, and social boundaries. They present current, relevant, and medically accurate information to middle and high school students. This enables them to recognize warning signs of abuse, assess real-life risks, and empower them to make informed decisions to establish healthy relationships. Educators empower more than 4000 students annually across seven counties.
