The Athens City-County Health Department (ACCHD) is a public entity governed by a board of health and supported by many community partners engaged through long existing coalitions and partnerships. ACCHD provides a broad range of public health services to Athens County residents: Nursing services provide child and adult vaccinations; a weekly harm reduction clinic; a mobile clinic van; and free cribs and nurse home visits to new families. Environmental Health services include inspection and permitting of private water systems and sewage treatment systems; food safety inspections; animal bite investigations; and mosquito control. Health Education programs include community health workers, local produce and assistance with housing, isolation, mental health support, transportation, health literacy, and problem-solving; Age-Friendly Athens County; the Friendship Bench program; and the Creating Healthy Communities (CHC) program.
