Who We Are
Olmsted CERT is an all-volunteer, non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization for the sole purpose of assisting the Olmsted Falls and Olmsted Township communities in preparation for and in response to emergency and disaster situations. We also provide mutual aid to surrounding communities and Cuyahoga County as needed. Through formal FEMA training and in coordination with safety forces, trained citizens within the CERT organization are able to: manage utilities to put out small fires; triage and treat life-threatening conditions by opening airways, controlling bleeding, and treating for shock; provide basic medical aid; search and rescue victims safely; organize themselves and spontaneous volunteers to minimize the negative impacts to the community and its residents. Emergency planners, community officials, and disaster service organizations have learned from recent catastrophic events that additional resources may not reach local citizens for an extended period of time. These findings caused local emergency coordinators to recognize that in the event of a large-scale disaster, there would be a need for CERT trained personnel to staff shelters, provide immunizations, or assist local first responders with other duties. Olmsted CERT continues to train for and provide these response functions to the Olmsted communities, as well as supplement local safety forces when they are overwhelmed by the demand and to prepare and educate the community.
